What Makes A Good Dinner Party

Published on

If you’re planning on having a party which involves food and chatter, try these tips if you’d like your guests coming back for seconds…

It’s not all about the food but let’s be honest, great food adds to great conversion. Cooking doesn’t have to be hard work and usually it’s the simpler it is for you, the less stressed you are and the more chance of success you have. Unless of course, you’re a pro and cooking is nothing that can’t be done with your eyes closed. Either way, make sure you get all your preparations done far in advance (or at least a few hours) and leave the small things to be done while your guests are there.

Your guests are not only there for your amazing food, but more importantly to spend time with you. Make sure you have ample time to sit down and enjoy their company.
If you have a large group of friends, make sure that you’re inviting enough that have some common ground to ensure an easy flow of conversation. Nobody likes awkward situations and as the host, it is your responsibility to make sure that:
 1. Nobody is trying to stab another with a steak knife or equally bad, 2. Everyone is so quiet that the air can be cut with a cake server.

Depending on how many people you’re inviting, make sure your home is as comfortable as can be. I don’t mean that you need to have 12 of the same glasses with 12 matching coasters, but that you’ve created an environment where your guests feel comfortable to just sit back and relax. The sign of a dinner party gone well is when towards the end of the evening, high heeled shoes are lying scattered on the ground and it’s the couch that’s sitting more people than the dining room table.

Lastly, a dinner party is not a dinner party without dessert. Sugar, carb, gluten and wheat conscious guests are more than welcomed to decline, but something sweet and indulgent always goes down perfectly to end of a perfect eve. Get your guests to lick their spoons in pure satisfaction and all is well that ends well.
